STRAPPY
Strappy is an odd name for a shark who has strolled through The Valley of Death and lived to tell the tale. He was first spotted by a research vessel off the southern coast of Australia. He had become entangled in a plastic packing strap. It was lodged around his head and dug deep into his flesh behind his gills, cutting into his dorsal fin. It was so deep that it restricted his ability to eat and to swim. He was going to die a slow and painful death.
Researches where able to attract Strappy to the boat using chum and baits. One of the researches was miraculously able to reach out of the cage and cut the packing strap free. This startled Strappy who disappeared back into the deep. He was in such a bad condition that everyone feared the worst. He was not seen again……… Until the day this photo was taken. His wounds had healed, and he had gained a healthy weight. The shark community was ecstatic!
This incredible apex predator was bought to deaths doorstep due to the reckless actions of humanity. He was saved by the selfless acts of just a handful of people. To me this shows how every individual can make difference.
